Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that he has had no ill effects from the appearance against Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final. Ronaldo was brought back to the first-team much earlier than expected since the team was also without superstar Gareth Bale. Carlo Ancelotti said ahead of the match that Ronaldo was not 100% fit yet, but he would play a part.
This proved to be the case, as the winger played for most of the match. He was replaced several minutes before the final whistle with Bale, who had been suffering from illness prior to the encounter.
Ronaldo is having a fantastic season as far as the Champions League is concerned. He is the top scored in this year’s competition with a record 14 goals. This record is also shared by Barcelona’s Lionel Messi. Ronaldo had the opportunity to go clear in terms of records, but he missed some good opportunities against Bayern. The 29-year-old, though, has stated that he will be returning in the best possible condition for the second leg at the Allianz arena. Real Madrid took a huge advantage of reaching the first Champions League final in more than four years after a 1-0 win in the first leg.
Karim Benzema scored the only goal of the game.
“Some people didn’t want me to play but I did and nothing happened. I was a little bit worried because it was my first match after three weeks but I didn’t feel any discomfort. I’ll be in perfect condition for the next games. One-nil in the semi-final of the Champions League is good and we also played well. If we score a goal there it will make it very complicated for them to go through, so I think we will score and go on to the final,” said Ronaldo.
