Juventus talisman Cristiano Ronaldo will receive the maiden Paolo Rossi award for his exploits in the Italian Serie A last season. The Portuguese international would be awarded the accolade for finishing as the highest goalscorer in the Italian top flight last season.

The new award is in the honour of Italian World Cup winner Paolo Rossi who died several months ago. Rossi was the star man for Italy as they won a third World Cup title at the 1982 edition on Spanish soil. He died at the age of 64 in December 2020.
The Italian Football Federation has decided to change the name of the Golden Boot Award in the Serie A and Ronaldo would be the first recipient of the award since the decision was made to change it to the Paolo Rossi award. In addition, the award has a new appearance.
There would be 29 diamonds added to the trophy to be presented to Cristiano Ronaldo for the no. of goals scored by the former Real Madrid and Manchester United player in the Italian league last season.
The future of Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus is far from certain despite his form for the club since his transfer from Real Madrid three years ago. The Portuguese player signed for the Old Lady in 2018 and has made 133 appearances since then, netting 101 goals plus 22 assists. He has one year left on the four-year contract signed upon joining the club. Ronaldo has been linked with a return to former teams Manchester United and Real Madrid this summer.
